Right now the Democratic Leadership...both in Congress as well as Nationally....seem to be paralyzed in fear and as a result are doing their absolute utmost to avoid a confrontation with the GOP. Why?
Take Mr. Starks message from the floor on Oct. 18...the GOP immediately got their message out while nothing in either support or disclaim came from the Dems until Hoyer this morning....against Mr. Starks no less. However...there are several instant polls out that show overwhelming public sentiment in favor of Mr. Stark. See CNN for instance.
Now we have Mr Dodd, along with Mr. Biden, forced to go against the party leadership and may be forced to filibuster against their own party.
What is the Dem leadership so afraid of...that the public is not?
There have been several thoughts in different places such as
1 Dems are laying back to make sure the GOP go down in flames in 2008.
(also known as as the 'we have no plan' theory)
2 Dems do not want the base that energized now as it would force an impeachment proceeding resulting in (gasp) possible replacement of at least one member of the Executive Branch...the idea being that the GOP could bring in their top choice as replacement VP and sweep into the 2008 vote as an incumbent.
Thoughts??
